Schoolchildren learning about elections

“Pupils now receive information from many more channels than in previous years, and they are hearing a lot about the upcoming election,” she says. “This places a duty on schools to teach the children about the politics behind the election campaign.”
As part of the project week, the second-graders have been introduced to politics in general, they have counted election posters and they visited the KvF studios where they were given the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session on politics. (pictured)
Children’s politics across the country
Most schools across the islands teach their pupils about politics, but the á Fløtum school is one of the few to dedicate an entire week to the topic of politics and elections.
Libraries across the country are also arranging children’s elections this week.
Twelve children will run as candidates for the election, which has been arranged to give children an insight into the election system while also boosting their interest in reading.
