Neurology waiting times cut by seven months

The National Hospital has spent the past year working towards shortening the waiting times for people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, sclerosis and epilepsy.
And now these waiting times have been cut from ten to three months due to a new consultancy system involving six neurology specialists, which means that the hospital will now be manned by specialists for 32 weeks per year.
This is twice as long as with the previous system, according to a National Hospital press statement.

Neurology treatment is one of the many areas which the National Hospital is working toward taking over from the Danish health authorities.
“It is essential for the patients and their relatives that we continue to develop specialty areas in the Faroes, and we have now reached a point at which we can offer treatment at a very high level in many areas,” says Steinar Eirikstoft, CEO of the national hospital service.
The National Hospital has made agreements with neurological units in Denmark regarding patients with particularly complex neurological disorders.
