KÍ through to second-round CL qualifier

After what KÍ chairman Tummas Lervig describes as “an agonising wait” since Friday’s cancelled first-round Champions League qualifier game, the result is finally clear.
KÍ has won the match 3-0 as a result of its opponents, Slovakian Champions Slovan Bratislava, having to forfeit the game in Klaksvík after twice being found to have a squad member testing positive for Covid-19.
The two clubs were initially due to play last Wednesday, but the game was postponed until last Friday after one of the Slovakian players tested positive.
In accordance with Faroese Covid-19 regulations, the entire Slovan Bratislava squad was immediately put into quarantine.

A team of substitutes was later flown to the Faroes to contest the postponed match on Friday.
All players tested negative on departure from the Slovakian capital; however, one player tested positive upon arrival in the Faroes.
After lengthy considerations, UEFA called off the match minutes before kick-off at 5pm, only to later backtrack on its decision, saying it needed until yesterday to further deliberate the outcome of the match.
The final result means that KÍ are now through to the second qualifying round for the Champions League, scheduled to be contested tomorrow evening in Switzerland against Young Boys.
