Faroese population tops 53,000 for the first time

The Faroese population was 53,022 on 1 February 2021, which is a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent.
This increase is slightly lower than in the previous 12-month period, which saw a 1.7-percent increase (877 people), reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
While the annual net migration decreased by 131, the excess of births over deaths increased by 52.
The highest growth was in the following municipalities: Tórshavn, Klaksvík, Runavík, Eystur, Nes, Tvøroyri and Vágur.
Suðuroy and Sandoy, whose populations have been on a decline in recent years, enjoyed growth in the past year. Meanwhile, the population growth in Vágar has stagnated.
