Top sportspeople honoured

Handballer Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu was yesterday voted the 2021 Sports Athlete of the Year.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an eventful 2021, winning the Swedish handball championship and playing in the EHF European League with his team Sävehof.
He played in the Under-20 championships in Portugal and joined the men’s national team where he scored a total of 12 goals.
Yesterday was a big day for the young athlete. In addition to scooping the award, he also won the Swedish cup final with Sävehof and was voted player of the day.

The ‘Breakthough Athlete of the Year’ award was handed to swimmer Elisabet Erlendsdóttir, of Havnar Svimjifelag.
The ‘Sports Initiative of the Year’ award went to Tvøroyri’s football academy Fótbóltsskúlin við Stórá.
Weightlifting association Føroya Styrkisamband was named ‘Sports Association of the Year’.
Hvalba-based football coach Brynjar Poulsen won the ‘Sports Role Model of the Year’ award.
The ’Poul E. Petersen Award for Special Services to Faroese Sports’ award went to Jákup Mortensen in recognition of his many years of service for football club NSÍ.
