High Court clears young man of manslaughter charge

A 26-year-old man was yesterday acquitted of manslaughter charges in connection with an alleged killing in 2012.
The High Court said it found insufficient medical evidence for any culpable action.
The prosecution says it will not pursue the case any further.
Background
In August 2018, police reopened a case against a young man in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl, who was found dead in the sea by the village of Hvannasund in Viðoy in November 2012.
Based on the autopsy, the police concluded that there was no evidence of assault or any accident.

However, the body was exhumed in September 2013 because the police had noted certain irregularities in the case.
It emerged that the girl had been dating a young man, who had been charged with attempted murder in Norðdepil, Borðoy, on 14 July 2013.
This prompted suspicions that the young man may have been involved in the girl’s death.
