Poll: 41% of women have experienced sexism
New poll provides an insight into sexism in the Faroes

A new poll indicates that 41% of women and 13% of men have experienced sexism, harassment or other inappropriate behaviour due to their sex.

The 500 randomly selected respondents in the poll were also asked where they had experienced sexism. They were given the option to provide multiple answers to this question.

More than half (60% of women and 58% of men) of those who answered ‘yes’ to the first question reported having experienced sexism in the workplace.

Only 16% of the women and 3% of the men who had experienced sexism in the workplace said they had reported this to their management.

About a third (33% of female and 30% of male respondents) said they had experienced it at school.

32% of female and 27% of male respondents reported having experienced sexism in their spare time/during leisure activities.

62% of female and 64% of male respondents said they had experienced it in the nightlife.

20% of female and 33% of male respondents ticked the “elsewhere” box.
