Summer time begins
Prime Minister wants to get rid of clock changes in the Faroes

26.03.2022 - 11:46

Clocks move forward one hour at 1am tonight.

Smartphone users need not worry about changing the clock as this is most likely done automatically, but those of us who use a classic alarm clock will need to adjust our clock manually.

Clocks will go back to winter time in late October.

The practice of seasonal clock changes was first introduced during World War One to save energy by prolonging evening daylight in summer, hence the term ‘daylight saving time’.

PM: time to scrap clock changes

Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen said today that the time has come to scrap clock changes.

This decision should not be made immediately, he added, but it would make good sense to start a public debate about this.

”Who knows, maybe 26 March 2023 will be the last time we will be changing to summer time,” he said.
