The man involved in last month’s shooting incident in Miðvágur has had his four-week detention extended by 27 days.

He is charged with attempted murder of a police officer on patrol as well as intending to cause grievous bodily harm to the officer.

The charges relate to an incident in Miðvágur on 9 December in which a shooting exchange broke out in Miðvágur after reports of a man threatening to take his own life with a shotgun.

When police officers arrived at the scene, the man fired numerous shots at them, one of them reportedly hitting a police officer in the head. As the officer was wearing a helmet, he only received minor injuries from the headshot.

The officers returned fire, and three of the shots hit the man. According to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, two bullets hit his chest and one hit his left thigh.

The detention was extended in the Copenhagen City Court, as the defendant has been hospitalised in Denmark.

The defendant, who is being held in a psychiatric ward, denies all charges against him, according to his defence lawyer, who adds that the defendant has declined to answer questions because he claims to have no recollection of the incident in Miðvágur on 9 December.
