Kirkjubø farmer Jóannes Patursson has joined the growing number of local farmers voicing their concerns about the impact of the ever-expanding tourism industry.

He says that the tourism industry has evolved so rapidly that the Kirkjubø locals can no longer keep up with the demand.

“Our tourism offerings focus primarily on groups. The number of individuals visiting our village has skyrocketed in recent years, and we simply don’t have the capacity to serve them,” he says.

“The only way we can imagine seeing some profit from our tourism offerings while also preserving the nature is by using some kind of payment system, for instance by fencing in the farmstead and setting up a toll gate at the entrance.

The farmer is keen to point out that everyone is welcome to visit the village, but the wear on the farmstead area is becoming a big issue, and something needs to be done to control the ever-increasing number of visitors to the area.
