Prime Minister vows to fight school bullying

Plans are now in place to launch concrete campaigns addressing the problem of bullying in Faroese schools.

The appendix to the Prime Minister’s Parliament opening speech yesterday states that funds have been set aside for combating this problem.

Reports on school bullying show that the situation is improving. A survey from 2007 showed that 15 percent of schoolchildren said they were being bullied. In 2015, this figure had come down to 13 percent, and last year it had come down to 11 percent.

But more needs to be done, according to the government.

The new plan includes the appointment of a full-time wellbeing manager at education institute Nám, conduct wellbeing surveys every year, arranging annual anti-bullying theme days and allocating funds for schools to spend on research and campaigns related to bullying.
