Test analysis can take up to 48 hours

It can take up to 48 hours from the time a Covid-19 swab test is taken until the result is ready.

Up to last week, the total number of positive results from the previous day’s tests were published the following morning.

But with unusually high numbers of tests carried out last week – peaking at 4,541 on Friday – the laboratories need more time to analyse all the tests.

The chief medical officer is urging everyone awaiting their test results not to consider their results negative if they have not heard from him the day after testing.

Due to the high pressure on test labs, the results of Saturday’s tests will not be announced until today.
