Churches easing Covid restrictions

Churches have made special arrangements to allow more people inside for Sunday service, reports folkakirkjan.fo.

While the current Covid-19 guidelines require a maximum of 100 people gathering in the same place, grouping churchgoers into smaller clusters will make it possible to increase the total beyond 100 in the larger churches.

Klaksvík’s Christianskirkjan church, for example, will now be able to take in some 330 people, while the Vesturkirkjan church in Tórshavn can take 250.

Using Vesturkirkjan as an example, here are some measures taken to minimise contact between churchgoers:

- At the end of the service, people seated on the right side will exit from the back rows first along the side aisles, followed by those on the left. The central aisle will not be used for people in the church’s main hall.

-  Those seated in the choir section will then exit along the central aisle, followed by those in the loft section.

- People seated in the church cellar will enter and exit through the cellar doors.

Church concerts to resume

There have been no church concerts since the Covid lockdown in March.

But with the new distancing arrangements, churches have now been given the green light to host concerts.

The new Covid guidelines for churches will be in place from 15 October to 15 December, pending to major changes in the country’s Covid situation. New and revised recommendations will be issued ahead of the Christmas season.
