Faroese fashion is not easy to define due to the influence of international trends.

However, one thing that most Faroese designers have in common is that they tend to follow the principles of the so-called ‘slow fashion’ movement, which focuses on the problems of overproduction and overconsumption.

So says Sissal Kristiansen, owner of the Shisabrand fashion brand and one of the designers whose work will be on display at the Tórshavn Fashion Week, which kicks off in late August.

The highlight of the fashion week is an outdoor fashion show featuring the latest and greatest from some of the country’s top designers.

“We have partnered up with Visit Faroe Islands to create an event in which influencers and journalists from home and abroad are given a thorough insight into what Faroese fashion is all about,” says organiser Ólavur í Geil.
