At the start of this year, employment office ALS called for an easier transition from its fish factory (FV) system to its regular unemployment system.

ALS requested a law change because many people, mostly migrant workers, are locked in the FV system and are unable to look for other jobs.

We reported on this in January and promised an update once the proposed changes are approved.

Trade minister Ingilín Didriksen Strøm, who has now approved the proposed changes, says the revised system will result in higher benefits as well as making it easier for members of the fish factory system to seek work outside of the fishery industry.

The government order is available here (in Faroese only).
