New police station delayed
The police were planning to move into the new building this year, but now it won’t be until summer 2020 at the earliest

The Danish National Police is paying the Danish Building and Property Agency DKK 7.7 million in annual rental costs for the new police station in Tórshavn.

Add to that other expenses, such as heat and electricity, the total annual amount becomes DKK 8.6 million. That is DKK 5.4 million more than today.

But the construction work has been delayed, and that will make the whole affair even more expensive.

Ole Birk Olesen, the Danish Minister for Building and Construction, has requested the Danish Parliament’s finance committee to increase the appropriation for the new police station in Tórshavn from DKK 108m to DKK 138m.

The Danish Ministry of Finance has approved the request.

Danish construction firm Ommen og Møller has been contracted to convert the old bank building at Húsagøta into a police station.

No Faroese contractor showed interested in taking on the assignment, which is why the project has gone over budget, says Ole Birk Olesen.

The Danish National Police will be renting 3,175 square metres from the Danish Building and Property Agency. Some 2,200 square metres are office space.
