Great improvements in children’s dental health
Faroese children have much healthier teeth today than only a few years ago, new report reveals

The number of children with healthy teeth, i.e. no holes, has been on a steady rise in recent years.

In 1991, only 12 percent of 12-year-olds had healthy permanent teeth. In 2017, this percentage had risen to 61.

Small children’s dental health has also increased dramatically. In 1991, 29 percent of 5-year-olds had healthy milk teeth, compared with 73 percent in 2017.

According to the Ministry of Health, Faroese children and youths now have access to the same standard of treatment as elsewhere in the Nordic region.

However, Tannlæknafelagið (the Dentists’ Association) says that there is still room for improvement. More must be made to reduce the number of children with severe caries and increase the number of children with healthy teeth.
