Concerns over mysterious dog disease
Travellers who bring dogs to the Faroes are urged to show extra care amid a mysterious outbreak of dog disease in Norway

A disease which only affects dogs is leaving Norwegian vets perplexed as they cannot determine neither cause nor cure.

There is little information about the disease. All that Norwegian vets know is that dogs from all over Norway have been showing symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting blood.

The Faroese Food and Veterinary Authority is responding to these concerns by asking Faroese dog owners to keep their dogs inside – especially if they have come from abroad in recent days.

“We have no direct flights between Norway and the Faroes, so we have asked everyone travelling to the Faroe Islands with dogs to make sure that the dogs do not come into contact with other dogs until we know more about the disease,” says Birna Mørkøre, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Faroe Islands.

“We are asking all travellers to keep their dog on a leash and pick up any excrement.”
