Age discrimination law underway

Age discrimination law underway
The Minister of Labour wants to get rid of the fixed retirement age for public employees

01.05.2019 - 17:38

The National Association of Pensioners recently criticised the new anti-discrimination bill, arguing that it discriminates against old-age pensioners.

According to Beate Lindenskov Samuelsen, chairwoman of the National Association of Pensioners, the current bill clearly states that discrimination can be made against workers when they turn 67.

Heðin Mortensen, the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Labour, has taken heed of this complaint and has now asked the Rules Committee to remove the fixed retirement age for public employees.

No fixed retiring age

He says that the new amendment to the anti-discrimination bill will get rid of this problem.

“This will ensure that no public employees can be asked to retire solely based on their age,” he says.

If the bill is passed, the law will come into effect on 1 January 2020.
