Population approaching 53,000
On 1 August 2020, the official population of the Faroe Islands was 52,816, which is an all-time high and an increase of 733 (1.4 percent) on 1 August 2019.
This increase is slightly lower than the 848 (1.7 percent) registered between 1 August 2018 and 1 August 2019.
The difference is due to a slight reduction in the excess of births over deaths and net migration, according to Statistics Faroe Islands.
The excess of births over deaths went down by 25 in the past year, mainly due to a lower birth rate, and the net migration figure declined by 90, predominantly due to a reduction in immigration.
