Gymnastics hall prioritised over play centre

The plans to build a new gymnastics hall in Klaksvík are being expedited, says the city’s new mayor Karl Johansen.
This means that the planned indoor play centre will be put on hold for now.
“The City Council firmly believes that this reprioritisation makes sense because the people of Klaksvík will benefit greatly from a modern gymnastics hall,” says the mayor.

He adds that although excavations have begun for the play centre project, this work has not been done in vain as the area will initially be used for parking.
“We are making improvements to the football stadium area to make it suitable for hosting international matches, and this will require a significantly higher parking capacity in the area.”
The council has also set out to complete the spa and wellness area in the swimming hall as well as the running track, which is scheduled to be ready for use this autumn.
