Chaos in government
The Prime Minister said yesterday that the fate of the government will probably not be decided until after the Christmas holidays.
However, many indicators appear to be pointing toward a government collapse. Here’s a brief overview:
Coalition party Miðflokkurin, which opposes any attempts to grant greater rights to LGBT people, says its fellow coalition parties, Sambandsflokkurin and Fólkaflokkurin, have violated the coalition agreement to such a degree that any further collaboration is near impossible.
A quick recap: this violation consists of two MPs from Sambandsflokkurin and Fólkaflokkurin voting with the opposition in favour of the same-sex parental rights bills.

One of these two MPs, Sambandsflokkurin’s Johan Dahl, yesterday announced his withdrawal from the coalition, saying that he cannot work with Miðflokkurin. This means that the coalition loses its majority in Parliament.
And Fólkaflokkurin is facing some sort of implosion after two of the party’s ministers resigned ahead of yesterday’s third hearing to resume their Parliamentary seats in the hope that the ensuing reshuffle would secure a negative vote on the same-sex bills. Party leader Jørgen Niclasen is not happy with MP Annika Olsen's "disloyalty" in voting with the opposition, although he is reluctant to say whether she will be thrown out of the party.
