Applicants for jobs involving direct contact with children aged below 15 will now be required to include a child protection certificate in their application.

A child protection certificate attests whether a person has a record of sexual offences involving children.

This requirement only applies to new employees, something which Jacob Eli S. Olsen, the chairman of the Teachers’ Association, believes is not ideal.

“This is a good start, but it would provide more protection if this requirement also applied to existing staff,” he says.

New teacher vacancies announced

Thirty-one permanent teacher positions were recently announced by the Ministry of Education.

Seven of these vacancies were advertised by the school in Runavík.

Five positions were announced at the á Argjahamri school in Argir and three at Klaksvík’s á Skúlatrøð school.

Four schools have two vacancies each and eight have one each.
