How rising living costs affect students

The current cost of living crisis is affecting us all, and students are no exception.
More than 75 percent of students at the University of the Faroe Islands need to have a part-time job on the side to make ends meet.
More than one-third of the students say the current economic situation has a negative effect on their studies, and 23 percent say they have considered quitting their studies due to financial constraints.
These are some of the key findings of a survey conducted by the University of the Faroe Islands shortly before inflation started skyrocketing.

The average age of students at the university is 33 years, more than half of the students have children younger than 18 and 75 percent live in their own homes.
“There is every indication that we should work towards developing more flexible study options, including more part-time study programmes,” says the university’s vice-chancellor Chik Collins.
“This would make it possible to extend study programmes over longer periods to make it easier for students to work during their time at university.”
