Child protection certificates slow down hiring process
Applicants for jobs involving direct contact with children aged below 15 are now required to include a child protection certificate in their application.
While this requirement creates a sense of security for parents and staff, it also slows down the hiring process in a sector that is experiencing a severe staff shortage.
“It typically takes two to three weeks to obtain these certificates, and this waiting time can cause problems,” says Beinta Dalbø, who heads Tórshavn City Council’s children and youth department.

“We have had instances where we have found the perfect person for a job only to see this person take up another job offer because they were tired of waiting for the child protection certificate to come through before they could start working.”
She adds that up to 100 child protection certificates have been issued in Tórshavn municipality since the new law came into force on 1 June this year.
