Population reaches 54,200
On 1 August, the Faroese population stood at 54,200, which is a an increase of 670 people compared to 1 August 2021, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
This is a year-on-year increase of 1.3 percent, slightly lower than the 1.5 increase in the previous 12-month period.
The excess of live births over deaths has decreased significantly as there have been unusually many deaths in the past six month. However, this decrease is to some extent balanced out by a slight increase in net migration (the difference in the number of immigrants and emigrants).
From 1 August 2021 to 1 August 2022, the population increased in 14 municipalities, decreased in 14 and remained unchanged in one.
