The finance ministry has drafted a legal framework for the use of digital ID cards.

According to the draft bill, the digital ID card will, together with the planned digital driver’s licence, become part of the so-called Skjáttan app, which is currently being developed by Talgildu Føroyar, the National Digitalisation Programme.

The Skjáttan app is intended as a convenient storage solution for public certificates and licences.

Everyone who has registered with the Samleikin digital identity app will be eligible to use the digital ID card. The age limit for registering with Samleikin is 13.

The digital ID card can e.g. be used as proof of address and age.

The draft bill has been submitted for consultation with a 21 February consultation deadline, and the digital ID card is expected to be taken into use sometime this spring.
