Faroes still have Europe’s most active labour force
As in previous years, the Faroes have the most active labour force in Europe, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
The Faroese employment activity rate, which is the labour force in percentages of the working-age population (ages 15-74), is 84.9 percent for both sexes combined.
The activity rate for men is 87 percent compared to an EU average of 70 percent. The female activity rate in the Faroes is 82 percent compared to an EU average of 58 percent.

Faroese people start working at an early age. The 15-20 age group in the Faroes has an activity rate of 80 percent, compared to 70 percent in Iceland and 45 percent in Denmark. The EU average activity rate for this age group is about 20%.
Similar figures can be seen in the older population. The 65-69 age group in the Faroes has an activity rate of just above 70 percent, and the 70-74 age group has a rate of more than 30 percent, which is well above the corresponding figures for other European countries.
The Faroese figures have been compiled in accordance with Eurostat methodology and are thus comparable with those of the 35 nations covered by Eurostat.
