It has been a longstanding political wish in the Faroes to obtain full membership on the Nordforsk Board.

On 1 January 2023, this wish came true, reports Research Council Faroe Islands.

Established in 2005, NordForsk is a joint Nordic research funding organisation working under the Nordic Council of Ministers with responsibility for Nordic cooperation in research.

In March 2022, the Faroes submitted an application to the Nordic Council of Ministers highlighting the intentions and opportunities for the Faroe Islands to participate more actively in the Nordic Research Cooperation.

And a month ago, it was announced that the application was successful.

Annika Sølvará, the head of Research Council Faroe Islands, will continue to represent the Faroes on the Nordforsk Board, now as full member.

The next step for the Faroe Islands will be to participate with cofunding in NordForsk Open Initiatives.
