Young people want autonomy in the workplace
New survey looks into the work attitudes of Generation Z – those born between 1995 and 2010

Job title, reputation of the company and the attitudes of former staff are not among the key criteria when young people look for jobs.

A new survey suggests that Faroese youths value independence highly, and they want to create their own experiences in the workplace.

The survey asked 1,100 people born between 1995 and 2010 – the so-called Generation Z – about their attitudes to work.

Two-thirds, 67 percent, said they want to work in the service industry.

The health and social sectors were also popular choices, while the primary and production sectors featured at the other end of the young people’s preferences.

More than two-thirds, 69 percent, said they want to work in the Faroes. Only four percent said they want to work abroad.

A quarter of the respondents said that Faroese wages are at a reasonable level.
