As a result of ever-increasing passenger numbers on the Mykines route, the price of a one-way ticket has now been increased from DKK 60 to DKK 100.

In comparison, a return ticket on the Tórshavn-Suðuroy route costs DKK 80.

According to public transport company Strandfaraskip landsins, the number of visitors to Mykines has increased five-fold in recent years, and the price hike is a necessary means of curbing the flow of visitors to the island.

Tour operators have voiced their concerns over the price hike, slamming Strandfaraskip landsins for introducing the price hike at such a short notice.

“We should have been informed of this earlier, so we could have made preparations for this big change,” says Magnus Helgason Matras, who runs MM Tours.

“Many of our package deals for next summer are already booked, and this sudden price hike will take a huge bite out of our profits.”
