Two Faroese people who took part in last week’s ólavsøka celebrations tested Covid-19 positive yesterday.

Another person, who was also present in the Faroes during ólavsøka but who has now returned to Denmark, also tested positive upon arrival in Denmark. These three people have no relations to one another.

The two domestic cases were registered in Tórshavn and Runavík, says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.

He is now urging the public to take the Covid-19 threat seriously and respect the social distancing and hygiene guidelines.

”If we don’t pull ourselves together now, we face a very real risk of a full-blown return of Covid-19,” he says. “What we have here are three independent infection chains which require substantial efforts to track and trace.”

He is calling on everyone who may have been in contact with the infected people to email him on lafm@stps.dk.

These are the first domestic Covid-19 cases since 18 April.
