Police look back on a busy year

Police last year registered 113 cases involving breaches of the sexual crimes section of the penal code, which includes rape and indecent exposure.

This is a significant increase from previous years, according to the police’s 2022 statistics report.

Last year also saw a sharp increase in burglary-related theft offences, with the number of cases going from 21 in 2021 to 45 in 2022.

The number of cases involving other types of theft went up from 87 in 2021 to 119 in 2022.

There was also an increase in assault cases. Of the 106 assault cases registered last year, 92 involved male offenders and nine involved female offenders. In five cases, the perpetrator has not yet been identified.
