Too much food goes to waste
Food makes up more than half of household waste in the Faroes, new analysis reveals

Up to 55 percent of household waste is leftovers, according to an analysis commissioned by Tórshavn City Council.
The study was carried out in November 2022 and analysed household waste that had been divided into eight categories.
“We had not expected to see 55 percent food waste. The comparable figure in Denmark and parts of Norway is 40-50 percent,” says Bjørg Dam, who heads the city council’s environmental department.
