More flats than houses being built
Since 2015, 872 flats and terraced houses have been built around the country, compared to 652 dwelling houses

A total of 1,524 new homes were built in the Faroes in the past eight years, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.

The same period saw a population increase of 5,609 people. Some 274 new homes were built in 2009. This figure dropped down to 71 in 2014.

In 2017, the number of new homes started rising again, reaching 331 in 2022.

Flats and terraced houses now make up a majority of new homes. In the past eight years, the number of new dwelling houses totalled 652, compared to 872 new terraced houses and flats.

Of the 1,524 new homes built since 2015, 988 – 65 percent of the total – are in the Streymoy district.
