So far, some 1,300 people have been vaccinated in the Faroes, and larger-scale vaccinations are scheduled to start within a few weeks.

It is, however, crucial that those who have received the vaccine continue to adhere to the safety guidelines.

“The vaccine does not provide decent protection until about 12 days after the first shot, and you do not achieve satisfactory immunity levels until some time after you have received the second dose,” says Tummas í Garði, COO of the Hospital Service.

This, however, only protects the vaccinated person.

“A vaccinated person who touches a contaminated object can obviously still pass on the virus to others through physical contact,” he says.

“So it is important that vaccinated people continue to pay attention to the safety precautions.”

Two new Covid cases

Yesterday’s round of 1,067 tests yielded two positive outcomes, both of which are linked to a known chain of infection.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 6, 2, 4, 14, 3, 1 and 2.

There are currently 50 active Covid cases in the country. Two people are receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and the latest figures show that 156 people are in quarantine.
