First Faroese Olympic medal

Jóhan á Plógv Hansen has just secured a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 27-year-old right-winger from Argir was part of the Danish national handball team, which lost by two goals (25-23) to France in the final.
It is, however, not entirely right to say that this is the first Olympic medal won by a Faroese citizen. The Faroes have won no less than 13 Paralympic medals, all in swimming, including one gold for Christina Næss at the 1988 Paralympic Games in Seoul.
The other Faroese athlete competing for Denmark at the Tokyo Olympics was single-scull rower Sverri Sandberg Nielsen, who narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in last week’s final.
