Big multisports complex approved
Planning work can now begin on Føroya Arena, a large multisports complex to be built in Tórshavn’s Hoyvík district.
So says mayor Heðin Mortensen after Tórshavn City Council yesterday approved a DKK 25 million supplementary grant for the project.
This brings the total estimated project cost to DKK 243 million, of which Tórshavn City Council has pledged DKK 134 million. The remaining DKK 109 million will come from the Faroese and Danish governments, various trusts as well as private and business investors in the Faroes and overseas.

”We are now ready to start our planning work. If the price of building materials continues to go up during our planning, we can always put on the brakes,” says the mayor.
“Either way, no money or effort will have gone to waste if we are forced to pause the project. We are confident that this is a financially viable project which forms a crucial part of the expansion of the Hoyvík district and the city as a whole, and it’s something that will benefit everyone in the Faroe Islands.”
The plan is for the project to be debt-free once the arena is taken into use in late 2023.
