High demand for free meals

Tórshavn’s City Church offers free meals and lunch boxes on Wednesdays.
“It has become significantly more expensive to run our service,” says church leader Tom Jacobsen.
“We are seeing some new faces among those using our service, and they come from all walks of life. So there is clearly a demand for our service.”

The free meals service is financed by church members along with individual and business sponsors from across the country.
“It is heartwarming to see such generosity.”
Jacobsen adds that the “Yvirskot til tín” (“Surplus for you”) Facebook group, which distributes surplus food to those who need it the most, has done an excellent job in shedding light on a need that is not so easy to talk about.
