Earthquake relief aid from Strendur

The horrible situation in Turkey hits close to home in Strendur, Eysturoy.
Berkan Otman, the head coach of the town’s handball club, is from Turkey and lives in Strendur together with his wife Manolya and their two sons.
StÍF writes in a press release that Berkan has many friends in earthquake-hit areas, and some of them have not been heard from for days.
This prompted the club to launch a relief appeal for the people affected by the quakes, which has claimed more than 20,000 lives.
Ten large boxes
"Many people have lost their homes, and it is cold in Turkey these days,” says StÍF managing director Rúni Rasmussen.
“We decided we wanted to send some warm clothes to Turkey. We hope this will make a difference to the people who receive it.”
Working together with Strendur’s Romania Aid, StÍF yesterday sent off ten large cardboard boxes filled with clothes, blankets, soap and other items.
The Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen will take care of distribution when the Faroese aid boxes arrive in Turkey in the coming days.
