The Faroes have a lower cancer survival then the other Nordic countries.

This is one of the conclusions of a new Faroese study, titled ‘Cancer survival in the Faroe Islands over the last 50 years compared to the other Nordic countries’, published in the International Journal of Cancer.

”The Faroes are near the bottom of the list for all types of cancer in terms of survival,” says lead author Marnar Fríðheim Kristiansen.

“The figures are particularly low for ovarian cancer in women and lung cancer in men.”

The study authors call for further research to investigate the cancers with lower survival and for actions to improve the survival of Faroese cancer patients.
