Tourists from abroad return to hotels
Foreign hotel visitors are returning to Faroese hotels after a pandemic period with mostly Faroese visitors

Tourists from outside the Danish Kingdom now dominate the hotel statistics as they did before the Covid pandemic, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.

Hotel visitor numbers fell drastically during the pandemic, and there were periods in which a vast majority of hotel visitors were Faroese residents.

But things are now starting to return to pre-pandemic trends. In September, 48 percent of hotel visitors were not Faroese or Danish residents, judging by the number of overnight stays, which is a measurement of the number of visitors and the duration of their stays.

Danish residents represented 36 percent of overnight stays in September. The remaining 16 percent were Faroese residents.

The number of Faroese and Danish visitors has dropped compared to this time last year, while the number of foreign visitors from outside Denmark has increased by more than 30 percent.
