Further delays to 5G

Føroya Tele began its transition from 4G to 5G in August last year with the aim of completing the project by the end of 2022.
However, with global supply chain issues slowing down delivery of technical equipment such as microchips, the completion date was first postponed until late March.

And now it has again been put back a few months.
“We have had some problems caused by the global chip shortage,” says Símun Skaalum, managing director of Føroya Tele’s communication division FT Samskifti.

“We then had some additional logistical issues related to our transition from Huawei to Ericsson equipment. We expect to have the 5G network up and running by the end of Q3 of this year.”
