New ministers appointed
Árni Skaale and Sólvit Nolsø were today appointed as the country’s new Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Social Affairs, respectively.
They take up the posts vacated by Jacob Vestergaard and Mercedes Elsebeth Mercedis Gunnleygsdóttir, who both resigned from their posts to resume their parliamentary seats ahead of last month’s equal rights for same-sex couples vote.
The new fisheries minister
Árni Skaale is 55 years old and lives in Klaksvík. He holds a degree in production engineering, and for the past 22 years he has managed Klaksvík-based firm Looknorth, which manufactures plastic materials for the fishery industry.
Although a member of Fólkaflokkurin, Skaale has little to no active experience in politics.
The new social affairs minister
Sólvit Nolsø is 36 years old and lives in Tórshavn.
He holds a degree in political science and has worked as a journalist in recent years.
He has held the position as Fólkaflokkurin’s secretary since April last year.
