Aviation industry sees clear skies ahead
A recovery is on the horizon after a couple of tough years for Atlantic Airways and Vágar Airport

Atlantic Airways had a DKK 10 million deficit after tax last year. The deficit for 2020 was DKK 105 million.

The flag carrier’s passenger numbers reached 201,000 last year, an increase of 52,000 on the previous year.

Despite uncertainties linked to the war in Ukraine, rising oil prices and possible further Covid complications, the airline management is optimistic about the year ahead.

“We are seeing a big increase in demand,” says Atlantic’s committee chairman Niels Mortensen.

”We expect a significant drop in Covid-related disruptions later this year, which will most likely result in our passenger numbers returning to pre-pandemic levels by this summer.”

Vágar Airport is similarly optimistic about 2022.

Last month, the number of passengers passing through the airport reached 83 percent of the March 2019 figure.

This month’s numbers are likely to match those of April 2019, says airport manager Regin I. Jakobsen.

The airport reported a deficit of DKK 5.6 million after tax in 2021.
