Once available, a Covid vaccine will be rolled out in phases, with elderly people, health workers and chronic illness patients making up the top priority group.

So says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller, who heads the new Covid-19 vaccine working group.

“For a Covid-19 vaccine to work effectively across the population, we need to achieve the so-called herd immunity, which requires between 50 and 70 percent of the entire Faroese population to take the vaccine,” he says.

To ensure a sufficiently high participation in the vaccine programme, information will be an important factor:

“There will probably be some degree of scepticism as this is a new virus and a new vaccine, so we may need to launch some sort of information campaign, possibly through social media or a Q&A hotline.”

In related news, no new Covid cases have been registered since Saturday. Two active cases remain in the country.
