The role of a modern Faroese dad

“You just throw yourself into it” is the title of a new study on fatherhood and family conducted by Firouz Gaini, professor of anthropology at the University of the Faroe Islands.
Through interviews with a number of Faroese fathers, the study explores the “generative interplay between local gender and masculinity norms and images of the ‘new man’ from political and academic discourse”.

One of the conclusions is that Faroese fathers represent an attempt to find balance between traditions and being a modern father.
Gaini says his main motivation for carrying out this study is the general lack of scientific material about men in the mainstream gender equality debate.
