Fewer applicants for upper secondary courses

When the application deadline for upper secondary courses passed last Wednesday, 878 applications had been submitted.

This is a slight drop of 40 on last year and about 100 fewer than in 2021, according to education ministry figures.

Of the 878 applicants, 677 applied to study the general upper secondary programme, 18 applied to the Public Health School in Suðuroy and 183 applied for vocational courses.

Girls outnumber boys

As in previous years, there were more applications from girls than from boys.

This year, girls make up 58 percent of all applications. Since 2015, girls have outnumbered boys in upper secondary courses, except for the economics and technology programmes, which still have a majority of boys.

The number of applicants has been on a downward trend since 2015. There were 342 fewer application this year than in 2015.

Applications are currently being processed and applicants will be informed no later than 21 April, according to the education ministry.
