TARAS, a team of four students from Klaksvík’s Tekniski Skúli, won top honours at this year’s ‘Ungt Virki’ (‘Young Company’) young entrepreneurs awards.

The team will represent the Faroes in the finals in Copenhagen on 26 April where the top 42 young entrepreneurial teams will be competing for the top spot.

TARAS’ project is based on sustainable production of starch from Faroese seaweed for use in feed production in the Faroese aquaculture industry.

Number two was BEHR, a team from Tórshavn’s Glasir college which creates small fashion bags from recycled bicycle tubes.

Third was Kloddi, also from Glasir, who make woollen fashion items from old car tyres and recycled Faroese jumpers.

Nine judges assessed a total of 16 projects involving 54 students from Klaksvík’s Tekniski Skúli, Miðnám in Kambsdalur and Glasir in Tórshavn.
