DKK 121m diabetes centre finally approved
Long-disputed plan to build a large diabetes centre has been given the green light in Parliament
The plan is to make the new diabetes centre, named Steno Diabetes Miðstøð Føroya, an extension of the National Hospital

Parliament yesterday voted in favour of accepting an offer from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to set up a diabetes treatment/research centre in Tórshavn.

The Ministry of Health turned down the initial proposal from 2018; however, the new government resumed talks with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and now the plan has finally been approved.

The DKK 121 million granted by the foundation will cover treatment of and interdisciplinary research into diabetes from 2023 to 2032.

Since the initial talks in 2018, endocrinological disorders and diseases have been added to the research partnership between the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Faroese health ministry.
